The International Piano Archives at Maryland is a unique possession of the university and a one-of-a-kind resource for our piano faculty and students. Our faculty studios and practice rooms are equipped with well-maintained Steinway grand pianos and our school is recognized as an "All-Steinway School" by Steinway & Sons. Graduates have made their mark professionally in chamber music, accompanying, opera-coaching and faculty appointments throughout the country and beyond. Offered to graduate students, our collaborative piano program is one of the very finest in the United States. Performance opportunities for piano students abound! These include the Piano Showcase concert, divisional recitals, the annual concerto competition and the School of Music commencement ceremonies. These opportunities include collaborative work in chamber music, larger ensembles and opera rehearsals. All of our piano students have opportunities to collaborate with their peers studying voice, strings and winds. Pianists have a strong presence within the School of Music. Recent artists have included Gilbert Kalish, Boris Berman, Richard Goode, Joseph Kalichstein and Julian Martin. In addition to weekly studio classes, our students benefit from masterclasses with renowned visiting artists.
